Winter, Weddings and Warmer Weather

20151213_122635Not necessarily in that order. Here at Shady Grove Farm Bed & Breakfast / Vacation Rentals, December delivered lots of rain and almost a white Christmas.  Jack obviously loves the snow, and we Rogue Valley humans are thrilled to see the drought come to an end and Mount Ashland Ski Area have more than enough snow for a fantastic season.  Thanks to the wet weather, the ponds are full and geese – and many varieties of ducks – have joined our resident couple.

We’ve also had our share of wind and temperatures down into the teens with horses blanketed and chickens with radiant heat in their coop (ya, ya, they’re spoiled, but why shouldn’t they be comfortable?). Jack still prefers to sleep outside.

We’ve accomplished a few improvements this winter, including erecting a permanent fence around the garden, which is now doubled in size. We love offering fresh organic veggies as ingredients for our vegetarian breakfasts for guests staying in the B&B suite. In the next few weeks we’ll be starting heirloom tomato seeds saved from our favorite tomatoes.  Which brings us to warmer weather, dreams of a bountiful garden, and……

Weddings! We’ve only had two at the farm so far, but hope to host more.  The brides have been so grateful for an affordable venue in a serene setting.  We haven’t advertised but have been sought out as it seems country weddings are popular.  One couple even decorated the outside of the old barn for a photo shoot.  We offer packages that include caterers specializing in mouth-watering vegetarian and vegan food, and overnight accommodations.  Apparently the holidays are a popular time for proposals, so many who are now engaged are busy planning their nuptials.  For those looking for a 2016 wedding venue, we hope you’ll give us a call to see if Shady Grove Farm is a good match for what you have in mind.

We want to wish everyone a very HAPPY NEW YEAR and we hope to see you in 2016.

In good health and high spirits,

Lin (she) & Lynn (he)
